Head of Data (US based client)

Position Overview:

As the Head of Data, you will lead our global data organization (US), overseeing data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML initiatives to drive business growth and user engagement. You will be responsible for managing a large, distributed data team and optimizing our complex data ecosystem, which spans multiple storage systems and real-time analytics pipelines. Your leadership will ensure that data is a strategic asset, fueling innovation and personalization in our English learning platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Leadership: Define and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with business objectives.

Team Management: Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of data engineers, analysts, and data scientists across multiple locations.

Data Infrastructure & Architecture: Oversee the development of a robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and AI/ML teams to unlock data-driven decision-making.

Data Governance & Compliance: Establish strong governance, security, and compliance frameworks to ensure data integrity and privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Machine Learning & AI: Drive innovation in AI-driven language learning by leveraging cutting-edge ML techniques and personalized learning algorithms.

Real-time & Big Data Processing: Optimize real-time analytics pipelines and distributed data systems to support personalized learning experiences at scale.

Experimentation & Insights: Champion data-driven experimentation (A/B testing, causal inference) to optimize learning outcomes and user engagement.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in data leadership roles, managing large, distributed data teams.
  • 5+ years of experience in EdTech and mobile apps is preferred. Expertise in technologies such as Snowflake, Airflow, RDS.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and data infrastructure best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning, AI-driven recommendation systems, and experimentation platforms.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data engineering best practices.
  • Experience building scalable data platforms in a fast-growing tech or edtech environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
